The World You Can’t Contain/The Conduit
Although I primarily use film in my work, from 2023 onwards I found myself increasingly enjoying making photos with my phone, taking advantage of the freedoms granted by automatic settings and a camera that's always in my pocket to expand the Ordered World into new directions. In 2025 I formalized this growth by setting a goal to take phone photos every day of the year, pushing myself to constantly look for something that might catch my eye. The first part of the project's title, The World You Can't Contain, comes from the fact that there was always something just beyond my awareness—the more I looked, the more I saw there was to see, and I knew that I couldn't hope to contain it all with my lens! This led to the second part of the title, The Conduit, which refers to my role in this new understanding of my photography; immersed in the Ordered World, I function as a conduit through which these unspeakable things flow, changing me even as I capture them and change them as well. I am still processing my experiences from the year, but I feel that the sensitivity that I have gained through this project will serve me well as I move forward as an artist and a seeker of Transcendence!
