It would seem that I am constantly reevaluating and adjusting my work, year after year. And that is absolutely true! I am not content to sit in one place for too long; even my sense of who I am as a person remains in flux as time goes by. Therefore, it is not surprising that throughout 2023, I expanded on my ordered world, trying new things like long exposure night photography or extractions of particular scenes. I went back to places long familiar to me, like my hometown in Pennsylvania and the beaches of the Outer Banks, taking new photos with an increased mastery of my tools. And I struggled to break free of my desire for validation, beginning my current project in the fall as an exercise in making art only for myself. Reflecting on the year, I am confident that I continued to move in the right direction—the choices I made during the year were the right ones!
